I honestly can’t think of anything. I think my mom did a pretty good job with me.
Well… the one piece of advice I’d have given my dad would be… “go to hell”

A few years back my mother and I went on holiday to Jersey (island), she did not want to go by sea as she is scared of the water since a child, so we flew there and back. Yet, some years before that we went to the Isle of Wight by car, train, and hovercraft, and return journey it was too choppy to go by hovercraft so we went back by ferry.....it is a short distance from IOW to the UK coastline, she did not seem worried at that time.
I know she would not want to go swimming as that is where her biggest fear of water lies after being pushed into the water as a kid, and not knowing how to swim.
I wish I had encouraged her to try it some years ago, and encouraged her that there was nothing to worry about. I'm not a great swimmer, but I am not scared to go into a swimming pool.
